Relocation. Yerevan and Armenia.
Pros and cons of life in Yerevan. Part 1
After two years of living in Armenia, in Yerevan, we put together a list of pros and cons that may help people considering Yerevan as a place to live. A quick note: for us, the pros still outweigh any cons. We love Yerevan as it is, cozy and warm.
So, the pros:
✍️ Openness and friendliness of locals. People create the atmosphere of a place, and people here are wonderful: open, kind, and ready to help.
✍️ History and authenticity. Yerevan is more than 2,800 years old. Ancient heritage surrounds the city and nearby areas: monasteries and fortresses, Urartu legacy, winemaking, and many remarkable people who influenced not only Armenian history but global history too. Yerevan and Armenia are like a rich dense wine whose taste unfolds gradually.
✍️ Warm, dry climate. The weather in Yerevan is very pleasant: it feels like summer is extended by three months. May is already summer-like, and temperatures can stay around 20°C into November. Heat is more tolerable because the climate is dry and central streets are well planned, so while walking you can usually stay on the shady side.
✍️ Fruits and vegetables. Excellent quality with options for different budgets. We prefer local produce stalls near home. Off-season imported fruit from Iran is often good quality. In season, prices are low.
✍️ Affordable taxi. In Yerevan we either walk (we love long city walks) or use taxis. Even during rush hour, taxis are affordable. For example, from Arabkir to the city center in rush hour can be around 1200 dram (about 300 RUB).
