Yerevan. Walks

Sunny weather has finally arrived in Yerevan. One day we decided to walk from Moskovyan toward the church of St. Sarkis ("Surb Sargis" - here he is venerated as the patron of lovers). The church looks rather unusual for traditional Armenian architecture; there's something Gothic about it.

From the viewing platform next to the church there's a stunning view of the Hrazdan. Along the way we came across a couple of previously unseen pieces of city graffiti. And also a beautiful mural on the wall of a building. It depicts Grigor Narekatsi (around 951-1003) - an outstanding Armenian poet, philosopher, theologian and saint. He is shown writing his famous "Book of Lamentations". For Armenians this book is sacred - it's often called simply "Narek", and it's believed to have healing power.
