Benches in Yerevan and Armenia are a whole universe that we have only just started exploring. It turns out not only Yerevan districts have their own inscriptions, and not only the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova has personalized benches. There are also memorial benches, benches donated by different foundations, a lovers’ bench, a bench stolen by a Russian expat, and many other types. Despite all this variety, they are made in a unified style and create a recognizable look not only for Yerevan but for Armenia as a whole.

Let’s start with the most common one. There are 2,301 benches with the inscription Երևան. Your eyes are not deceiving you: it really has only 5 letters. No surprises here:

ր - r
ա - a
ն - n
But the letter և is tricky. It expands into two sounds: "ev." So with uppercase letters you need six symbols, while lowercase can fit into five.
