Hrazdan. Art Gallery.
Hi everyone! We continue our Hrazdan series.
So, after waiting an hour for the director who was supposed to open the door to 20th-century Armenian art for us, we finally got into the museum - more precisely, the art gallery. The director turned out to be a very kind and friendly person, even though we pulled him away from non-museum business.
Then we walked along a dusty, dim corridor to the stairs and the gallery hall. Inside we found social surrealism: scenes from a ceramics workshop, still lifes, portraits. There was a sweet moment when the guide pointed at a fairly innocent (by modern standards) painting with a stylized topless model and said that before school group visits this painting is moved to storage, because students get shy.
The whole place felt mysterious in a good way: iron futuristic lamps, bright stained glass in the central facade window. We liked it a lot, and the conversation was warm and friendly. The gallery often hosts rehearsals, concerts, and lectures. You can see paintings and sculptures by 20th-century Armenian artists. The visit with discussion took about an hour.
