Winter Tbilisi
Recommendations
Let’s summarize our guide from the series “what to do in Tbilisi in winter.”
- Zoo - watch a hippo open its mouth waiting for snacks.
- Botanical Garden. Cable car over the Kura River. Narikala Fortress.
- Sulfur baths - relax and lower cortisol.
- Mtatsminda Mountain. Funicular. Ferris wheel. Try famous Lagidze lemonade at the restaurant on the mountain.
- Museums. For example, the Museum of Modern Art on Rustaveli: Niko Pirosmani and Georgian socialist realism.
For those interested in 20th-century revolutionary history: visit the underground printing house of Georgian revolutionaries. - Visit the Dry Bridge flea market in the center, or the flea market near Isani metro.
- Visit the Fabrika art space: designer shops (clothes, books, ceramics), youth cafes, and even a frequently-stuck elevator ride.
- Restaurants and cafes we liked:
🥙 Terrace 21 in the sulfur-bath area
🥗 Tbilisi Mo cafe in the side streets - great if you are tired of kebabs and khinkali; European cuisine and very friendly owners and staff
🍧 Funicular restaurant - diverse tasty desserts, Lagidze lemonade, and city view
🥟 House of Khinkali on Rustaveli
🥘 Kitchen Soup - huge soup variety from borscht and solyanka to Finnish fish soup; complimentary Georgian cabbage with bread
🥤🍩 Subway and Dunkin Donuts - good sandwiches and donuts, convenient for tea or coffee on the go - Walk around the city, pet the endless cats, and look at cool graffiti.
- Use a local guide for a city walk and learn lots of interesting history.
Of course this is not a full list. Tbilisi is a large city with many museums, theaters, and places to listen to good music. We left notes for the next visit. ☀️✨
