The modest charm of Yerevan
What makes Yerevan great: you can walk central streets and enjoy a multinational crowd much like in London. You can view cultural heritage for free at the foot of Cascade in the Cafesjian Center for the Arts. But in courtyards and playgrounds, masterpieces of no smaller caliber are waiting too.
Look at this. On the left: an untitled self-portrait by leading Chinese sculptor Yue Minjun. Made in the style of cynical realism, part of a series where the sculptor depicts his own laugh in different forms and poses. Do not touch, do not approach, do not use in any way. Installed in 2012.
And on the right: a work by an unknown sculptor, immortalized in plastic. When it was installed - we could not establish. To my taste, no less creepy than the left self-portrait. But you can approach it, touch it, take photos with it. And rock on it.
